Playing for a limited run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, The Baker’s Wife is set to delight audiences with its dramatic plotline, masterful score and uplifting vibe. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein, and direction from Gordon Greenberg, this will be one of the best London theatre shows of the summer. But who can you expect to see on stage? Here’s an introduction to the cast of The Baker’s Wife.
Since rising to fame on Series 6 of The X Factor, Lucie’s stage career has gone from strength to strength. As well as representing the UK in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, Lucie has taken on prominent theatre roles including Cosette and Fantine in West End productions of Les Miserables and Elle Woods in a UK tour of Legally Blonde. She made her debut as Jenna in Waitress back in 2019, reprising the role after the Covid-19 pandemic and then took to the stage as Elphaba in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in 2022. You can now catch Lucie as Genevieve, the baker’s wife, with a London ticket. Musical theatre tickets are available from KX Tickets now.
As a graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Clive Rowe MBE has appeared in many pantomimes and musicals. His previous roles include Eddie Souther in Sister Act and Nicely Nicely Johnson in the National Theatre revival of Guys and Dolls, for which he won an Olivier Award. On the screen, he appeared in the Christmas special of Doctor Who back in 2007 and has taken roles in hit TV shows such as Dalziel and Pascoe and The Bill.
Having trained at RADA, Michael Matus began his career in theatre and TV with shows like Eurovision, Eastenders, The Bill, Hamlet and Richard III. Since then he’s enjoyed over thirty years on the stage, performing for the Royal Shakespeare Company and regularly appearing on the West End. While The Baker’s Wife is a rarely performed show, it’s not Matus’ first run in the production. He starred in the second opening of the show back in 2011 as the Baker, with Michael Strassen directing.
Born in Makati, Philippines, Joaquin Pedro Valdes made his first appearance on stage at the age of 11 when he was cast in Evita. After studying at the University of the Philippines Film Institute, he moved to London where he was cast as understudy Thuy in the UK tour of Miss Saigon. His other stage credits include The King and I, The Lion King and Pacific Overtures.
